Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei : Climate Statement and Action Plan

Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei are leaders in mauri restoration. As tangata whenua and ahi kā of Tāmaki Makaurau and the Waitematā, they have an intergenerational responsibility to look after their tribal rohe.

We are working alongside Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei to advance emission reductions through a foundational Climate Position Statement and developing a Climate Transition Action Plan. Through this mahi, we have developed a robust taiao climate plan guided by five principles and seven measurable action areas. Click Read More to download the foundational Climate Position Statement.

Nature Based Opportunities and Disclosures

We’re delighted to see the release of a set of metrics and recommendations to help organisations start on nature-related assessment and disclosure. We see a distinct advantage for organisations taking an integrated approach to nature and climate assessment.

The recommendations have been developed by the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) a global initiative with the aim of supporting a shift in financial flows away from nature-negative outcomes and toward nature-positive outcomes. The recommendations are applicable to businesses and organisations of different sizes and sectors. Through our contribution as an invited TNFD Forum Member and as part of our existing ‘Measuring what Matters’ programme of work we are now helping to:

· Support companies and funders to begin reporting climate and nature-related dependencies, impacts, risks and opportunities, given the urgent need to address both nature loss and climate change in an integrated way; and

· Provide a structured path to increase nature and climate positive impact and disclosure over time, recognising that the incorporation of nature-related issues is new to many organisations, but a growing imperative for sound governance, strategy and risk management.

UBCO: Scope 4 Carbon Measurement

We were recently commissioned by UBCO, an electric motorbike company founded in Aotearoa New Zealand, to build a carbon model to assess how UBCO bikes measured up against comparable vehicles in terms of carbon emissions and operating costs.

We investigated a range of data including fuel efficiency claims and real-world battery performance and emissions. The outputs of our model allowed the team at UBCO to confidently tell their sustainability story to potential customers, all backed up by solid facts and research.

Over 50,000km the 2x2s offered an extraordinary reduction of up to 98% in carbon impact compared with diesel (98%), petrol (97%) and hybrid-powered cars (96%), petrol-powered motorbikes (95%) and mopeds (93%) as well as electric cars (81%).
